Best iPad car charger

I need to get an iPad car charger, but as far as I know, Apple does not make an official one. I already have a car charger for my iPhone but I'm not sure if it's compatible. If not, what car charger should I get to charge my iPad and will it be compatible with my iPhone or just the iPad?

I have this Kensington iPad car charger and I'm really happy with it. If you're a stickler for design, you'll love this car charger because it doesn't stick out of the cigarette lighter at all...it's designed with an ultra-sleek low profile. You'll hardly notice it's there.

You mentioned you wanted a car charger that also works with your iPhone...The car charger above works with iPhones too, but if you want get super fancy and charge both your iPad and your iPhone simultaneously, you should check out it's cousin, the Kensington PowerBolt Duo car charger:

Griffin always has, and always will be, the best guys when it comes to car chargers. Just look at the ingenuity of this PowerJolt Duo car charger I found for my iPad. You plug one end of the charger into your 12V cigarette lighter, and then connect the coiled cable to your iPad to charge it (it's a full 2 Amps), but if you need to use the cigarette lighter for something else, like a GPS or charging a phone, you simply pop off the top and can plug another charger into it. It's like having a car charger that doesn't hog your cigarette lighter. Crazy! I also love the stretchy coiled cord, it keeps my iPad in place and keeps the wires nice and neat.

I absolutely love my Griffin Micro iPad car charger. It's both tiny AND powerful. It's actually beyond tiny, this charger is teeny-tiny -- making it the perfect-sized charger. I have an old car with a cigarette lighter that slides out along with the ashtray from the area right underneath the radio. Every other car charger (including inverters) would not let me close the tray while having the charger connected. It doesn't stick out at all, in fact it's nearly flush with the edge of the 12V cigarette lighter, and it performs amazingly. It recharges my iPad in Turbo Charge mode (10W) and also charges my iPhone in fast-charge mode as well (5W). I HIGHLY recommend this Griffin charger!

That's correct, there's no official Apple Ipad car charger yet, but the Apple Store is carrying these iPad car chargers, which are guaranteed to be compatible with your iPad, and can also charge your iPhone and iPod. Just make sure you always use the 2 Amp USB cable that comes with the charger, otherwise it won't charge as fast.

The Griffin car charger plugs into your cigarette-lighter adapter and pumps out a 2 Amp charge for your iPad, iPhone or iPod.

Incase Car Charger for iPod, iPhone and iPad

The Incase car charger is also 2 Amps and will charge your iPad / iPhone / iPod, however, there are some horror stories on Amazon that this car charger was blowing the fuse in their cigarette lighter. So to be on the safe side, I'd stick with the Griffin car charger.

The Griffin PowerDuo is the best charger I've tried. It comes with both a car charger and a DC charger for your home. Being able to charge my iPad in my car or in a wall outlet all for one price is a great buy. The Apple Store doesn't carry this dual charger, only the car charger. I've tried several different chargers for my various Apple devices, and this one is the best by far. It charges the fastest compared to other chargers and it works with both my iPad and iPhone. If you need an iPad charger for both your car and your house, this is what you should get!

You asked whether your iPhone car charger would be compatible with your iPad, well that depends on which car charger you have. The iPad has 2 lipolymer batteries to charge, so you'll need a car charger that has 2 Amps of output. Most USB car chargers made before 2010 don't have more than 1 Amp of output because the older USB specs didn't require as much power as the iPad.

So if you look on your car charger and it says 2A or 2000ma output, it will most likely work with your iPad. Anything below that may still work, but will charge very slowly (if at all), so if that's the case, you'll be much better off investing in a new one. You can get a cheap one for under $10 that will work well such as this one:

The Scosche iPad car charger rocks! It's got 2 usb ports, one 2 amp port for charging your ipad, and another 1 amp for charging your iPhone or any other usb-powered device all at the same time. It's powerful and faaaaast!

I tried a few iPad car chargers but couldn't get rid of a really high pitched noise coming out of my car speakers. This only happened when my iPad was simultaneously charging while the audio cable was plugged into my AUX input and playing my iPad music. I did a little research and figured out that I needed to get something called a GROUND LOOP ISOLATOR that plugs into my AUX jack on one end and my AUX cable, which then plugs into my iPad's headphone jack. It didn't work with my inCase iPad car charger, but when used with my 2 amp Belkin car charger, it worked perfectly. For anyone else having the high pitched noise, here's the setup that I used:
