Best photo editing app for iPad

What's the best app for editing photos on my iPad? Ideally something like Photoshop, that supports layers, and the ability to add text, effects, filters, and resizing / cropping.

Photogene is one of the best photo editing apps for editing photos on your iPad. It's the closest thing to Photoshop that you can get. It lets you crop, edit, and add text and other effects to your photos. The app lets you edit the photo's levels, color, curves, and sharpness, and crop & resize. You can add effects like sepia tones, and a variety of frames, symbols (including cartoonish thought bubbles) and text/background options. The only thing that's missing is that there's no red-eye correction or layers functionality.

PhotoForge is a professional grade photo editing app for the iPad that contains a nice subset of Photoshop's editing features including curves and levels adjustment, a clone stamp and even the infamous unsharp mask. The UI is well designed with a highly intuitive interface for manipulating sliders and curves. There's a good variety of filters, brushes, and other photo editing tools. One option that most other apps don't provide is an unlimited undo/redo capability. It's the closest thing to Photoshop you'll get.

Photo Delight is more for fun than pro photo editing, but I love it anyway. This app takes photos from your library or from Facebook and then colorizes certain areas, transforming them into eye-popping works of art in just one tap. It's a bit of a 'one trick pony' but that one trick happens to be a really great trick.

ArtStudio has literally everything–drawing, painting, photo editing–all in one app. From blur, sharpen, clone, dodge, and burn tools to layers support, brush pressure recognition, and layer blending modes, it has it all. You can even hook it up to VGA projector for showcasing your art. Oh and did I mention, an option to export to psd! Brilliantly executed app!

If you're looking for an app for adding photo effects, check out FX Photo Studio HD. It's a fun little app with over 100 photo effects that you can apply to your photos in a nice intuitive interface. The app also has basic editing tools like resizing and rotation if you need that. You can even layer effects if you're feeling adventurous. Don't expect anything fancy though, like brushes, it's all about adding photo effects to your pics.

I just use Photoshop Express for doing my photo editing. It's a simple and free app made by Adobe that lets you do basic photo editing functions like resize, rotate, and flip. There's a sharpen and contrast tool, which is what I mostly use. There's also several effects and border options for decorating your photos. You can create a free account and upload up to 2GB of photos online. The one thing that's sorely missing from this app is the ability to support layers, something I would have expected from Photoshop. It's still very good for a free app.

This app may not be the best photo editor, but it's the best free photo editing app! It's an app called PhotoPad and gives you access to all the basic photo editing features, including: rotate, resize, and cropping, drawing / sketching / painting on photos, and a cool posterize and threshold tool. You can edit a photo's color, contrast, tint, chromaticity, and saturation. For a free app, it has more than enough features to do any basic photo editing stuff, which is really all I need.
